Bhuleshwar is an ancient Hindu temple situated on a hill near Malshirus in Pune district of Maharashtra, at a distance of 52 km from Pune and 11 km from Yavat. It has been declared a protected monument and is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and it was built in the 13th century during the Yadav rulers. It is believed that the temple was demolished by Muslim invaders and later rebuilt because the gateway to the temple was hidden as the cave tower was built during Shivaji's time. The fort on which the temple is located known as Daulat Mangalgarh Fort. This temple is uniquely characterized by architecture. The black basalt rock was brought to build this temple, which is different from the surrounding brown basalt rock. From the outside, it looks more like a mosque than a temple because it resembles a circular dome and an Islamic architecture like a tower and there are classical carvings on the walls.
The temple has five Shivlingas and these Shiva lingams can be seen in the light as they are hidden in the trench. The temple also houses Lakshmi, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Mahadev. In this temple, there are also Ganesh idols in women's costume and they are called Ganeshwari or Lambodari or Ganeshyani. This temple gets very crowded during Mahashivratri. Local belief is that when a bowl of salt is offered to Lord Shiva, one or more of the sweets disappear. About 15 km from Bhuleshwar Temple is Narayanbet. The territory is known as the home of indigenous winged animals and is visited by numerous nature sweethearts and bird watchers. Bhuleshwar Temple can be easily reached come to from Pune. It is located near the village of Malshiras, which is 3 km from the temple. Direct trains are available from Pune Swargate to Malshirs and Saswad to Malshiras. Upon arriving at the village, tourists can reach the temple with a private jeep.
