Ganapatipule is a small pilgrimage
area of 345 km from Mumbai, 307 km from Pune, 207 km from Satara, 152 km from
Kolhapur, 24 km from Ratnagiri at the distance. This is located in the
Ratnagiri district on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra in India. It is one of the few temples in the
country in which the presiding deity faces west of the Ganesha Temple in
Ganpatipule is special and unique.
It is believed that the statue of
Ganesh is a monument which itself was incarnated and was discovered 1600 years
ago. This city is mainly known for its
400 years old temple of Lord Ganapati which is the main attraction in
Ganpatipule. It is one of the Ashta Ganpati
temples in India and is known as 'Paschim Dwar Devata' and the temple is at the
base of a hill and pilgrims walk around the hill as a mark of
respect(pradakshina). Ganapatipule city has two legends
related to the name. As stated to a legend, after
insulting a local woman, Lord Ganapati went from his native Gule to Pule. So
the region was thus named Ganpati-Pule. As stated to another understanding,
the city was named after the white sand (or Pule in Marathi) from which the
idol of Ganesh was erected.
Ganapatipule is one of the most
spectacular beaches on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra. The beach lovers, peace seekers,
and pilgrims it is a way of an ideal. Ganapatipule is one of the white
sand beaches of Maharashtra, and the other is Kashid Beach. Ganapatipule beach is clean and
the sea is clean too. Swimming is not advised because of the rocky spread. It's an ideal spot for sunshine
and mesmerizing sunset. Apart from the beaches and
Ganapati temples at Ganapatipule, there are many other tourist destinations. The birthplace of the famous poet
Keshavsut in Malgund about 2 km from Ganpatipule and there is a memorial to the
great poet. And, Gaywadi beach near Malgund
village is the center of water sports activities at Ganpatipule. Other attractions near
Ganapatipule are Guhagar Beach, Jaigad Fort, Aarey Ware Beach, Ancient Konkan
Museum and Velaneshwar. At the distance of the
near-airport is Mumbai Airport, which is 343 km from Ganpatipule. In the distance, 30 km from
Ganpatipule is the Ratnagiri Railway Station. Ratnagiri is connected with
trains Goa, Mumbai, Bikaner, Patna, Pune, Kochi, Madgaon, Trivandrum, Ajmer,
Delhi, Mangalore, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli,
Amritsar, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Kochuveli, Porbandar, and Amritsar. Ganpatipule is connected by bus
with Mumbai, Kolhapur, Pune, and Ratnagiri.
